cowabunga- day 201 (project 365)

Teen Beach Movie a Disney movie premiered tonight and Mahlia was so so excited .   We had leis , popcorn and Hawaiian punch with little umbrellas for her for the movie.   I have always loved musicals since I was a little girl.  I watched the old beach musicals, Gigit, Annette Funicello (who just recently passed on) , and all the other cheesy musicals  from 40's &50's , Fame, Grease.       I wanted to dance always....another thing from another life.   I will admit it and say I loved watching this with my girls and actually liked the movie, very cute ... the choreography was actually very good.   I am a big kid!!!!    Yay for movie and with my girls Mahlia and Jasmin night!    Oh yes,  and  Jasmin has started the nesting stage ...getting bags packed , washing the clothes , cleaning up (some)....oh my.

the spirit warrior - day 197 (project 365)

Tonight I went to Juan Zermeno's art showing.   My friend Zerina was instrumental in having her fathers work put up and shown, and I believe this may be the first time.    I felt very honored to be able to take part in such a monumental moment for him and his family.   Beautiful work, poetry and energy.   Thank you for sharing your talents and spirit with us.

creative juices flowing- day 155 (project 365)

I will not miss a day for a photograph and am very tired. So o.k.  not so creative for a photograph ( I will call it a product shot :)  ...but my design side is flowing again as well.....simple, colorful and graphic,   I love these bags.   I will be selling these and making one for myself.

At least I posted a photo....and hopefully more inspired tomorrow .

stars and stripes ( well, my own) -day 113 (project 365)

morning 5:30 am ...meditation of thanks, work out, shower.....feeling fabulous...stripes it is with boots, jean jacket, turquoise, cowry shells (my stars) ....

It is a fantastic feeling to wake up and start the day on such a positive vibration and make the decision that no one will or has the power to make it anything less.
I totally get it now when I see certain elders just wearing what makes them feel good and  and fun..eclectic , bright, with big smiles on their faces , free spirits.  That will be me and I will continue to embarrass my children and grandchildren for that matter.  Oh what fun it will be.

Just feeling fabulous today and why not feel good  about yourself, walk with your head high, and strut your stuff as much  and often as possible.  Be colorful -or not, wear that piece of clothing you love- just because, be funky,  have fun, be you!

romeo, oh romeo- day 112 (project 365)

Either today or tomorrow is William Shakespeare's birthday.   Over the years I would say most of us have had to read something of Shakespeare , one of "the old crusties",  as I would say.   Granted I enjoyed some of it if I was connecting but there was so much of it that it was beyond my scope as a youth.   Loved when they made modern movies with the story that we could all identify with.   I always think of these not clear faded out scenes, romantic  and dangerous or even dark but dreamy .   I guess this "old crusty" is alright.

One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.

The vest...day 30 (365 project)

I received a beautiful gift in the mail from Riverside.   I open it to find photos of my mother, father and others, some poems, booklet from the African American Historical Society for Evergreen Cemetery (with my father listed  in it) , a wall hanging art piece made for Nosotros  (my father was artist in residence  non profit ), and my fathers dress vest.

I couldn't help but to unwrap my fathers vest and immediately bring it to my face and want to smell him once more as I twirl the buttons and imagine helping him button it up and he putting his large powerful hands in the vest pockets.....and I see him smile at me.
