glazed over eyes- day 178 (365 project)

It has been a busy  few days- long hours at work, college prepping for Jai, graduations, graduation party, maternity images with Jas, etc etc .   I have been trying to keep it up and going strong but I think I just need to rest a little.   It is all hitting me now, whew.  So instead of skipping and posting my photo late like I had over the weekend I am posting my barely awake self with eyes glazed over...literally and falling asleep as I am typing now.  Nodding off and just a few more letters ....stay awake....and done.   A beautiful day, and here's to another tomorrow.

bellies- day 176 (project 365) 6-23-13

Had some time to take some photos with Jasmin, John and Mahlia and the new brewing baby.   It will be the first of many I am sure and will be sure to share them.

cap and gown - day 175 (project 365) 6-22-13

Wow....my youngest has graduated!  Congratulations to my son Jai for taking one more milestone in your life and heading towards many more.   I am very proud of him.   Believe it or not , I thought I would have tears falling uncontrollably from my eyes and yet all I could do was smile.   All three of my children have made it this far and all young adults now and I have been fortunate enough to experience all of this thus far.   I am blessed.

summer solstice- day 173 (project 365)

Today is the summer solstice- longest day of the year.

I love the long full of light days and sadly this will mean that each day will get continually shorter eventually.
In Egypt the pyramids are aligned that during the summer solstice the sun sets in between two pyramids as if life returns to the womb or the womb creating light.    Life.   It is a powerful time full of energy with the summer solstice and full moon in a few days.   Giving thanks for life.....enjoy the summer.

summertime fortys- day 172 (project 365)

On my way home I noticed this scene .   No one sitting there just the remnants and evidence of happenings.    Have you  ever seen something and thought of who and what may have happened?  I do this all to often, conjuring stories up about these scenes I see in my head .  Walking into an abandoned home or historical building and knowing there was life there and imagining what it may have been like.
I had this vision  in my head seeing these two bottles sitting at the curb.  Two homies sitting on the curb, chilling, talking smack , laughing and having a forty, on a warm summertime night talking about life  and back in the day or what it could be.   Maybe that is the memories of my southbay National City days .  Salud

Binky's visit- day 171 (project 365)

Tonight I got to visit with  Binky boy and his parents (and all the kids).   I really was able to see his teeth coming right in , with wide gap in between.....so cute.  This little one turns on the smile as soon as I point the camera at him.     Nice ending to another very long day at work once more.

let the concrete flowers grow- day 170(project 365)

life pushes through the cold hard concrete and black tar asphalt
a universal reminder - don't  give in or give up
for all things are possible
I am that concrete flower - let the concrete flowers grow

Cooper family Juneteenth- day 167 (project 365// 6-16-13)

I slept through the night after vending and spending the full day at the Cooper Family Juneteenth celebration and didn't post before sleeping .   I had a great time.   I saw many folks that I hadn't in a while, made new contacts and met new people, there was African dancing and drumming, Muslim bean pies (mmmm mmm) , Capoeria, gospel music, face painting , educational videos on Juneteenth,  vendors and so much more.   It was beautiful seeing people come together from different faiths and backgrounds  to celebrate the fact that we all have a common bond , that without the one's who came before us and made it through slavery and struggle we would not have the blessings or life that we do have.   Give thanks to the Cooper Family for continuing your fathers work and for all of your hard work and dedication to make it happen every year for your/our community.

A little info from the web:
Though Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862, with an effective date of January 1, 1863, it had minimal immediate effect on most slaves’ day-to-day lives, particularly in the Confederate States of America.[3] Texas, as a part of the Confederacy, was resistant to the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth commemorates June 18 and 19, 1865. June 18 is the day Union General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take possession of the state and enforce the emancipation of its slaves.[4] On June 19, 1865, while standing on the balcony of Galveston’s Ashton Villa, Granger read the contents of “General Order No. 3”:
The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.[5]

throw back Thurs ( uh Friday) -day 166 project 365

I have lost track of the days .  They have been so busy that my throw back Thursday ended up being today.   Thank goodness I am doing a throw back because I have been going all day and got home very late from work.  I had my camera all day and was so busy that it didn't even get used.   This is a photo transfer when I first did one and am hooked.   I actually did it on canvas and it has lovely texture to it...and I still need to complete it (of course).

Blessed evening all .

senior prank- day 165 (project 365)

Picked up Jai and some of his classmates from school near midnight after doing their senior prank at school.   I was so upset with myself for not bringing  and forgetting my camera .  I took some flicks with my phone which is horrible.  That is why I should have it at all times , not to miss an opportunity .   All the chairs were zip tied together and they zip tied the scissors as well, toilet paper, streamers, posters, a car inside the main hall and Nicholas Cage posted everywhere .  They had a blast and the best thing is the underclass had to clean it all up somehow.   All day affair I am sure of it.

another artist - day 164 (project 365)

So as much as I am having a block creatively my little Beastie Mahlia is not.   I should take her inspiration and just put pen, paint, or crayon  to paper.

blocked- day 163 (project 365)

I have all these ideas in my head and getting ready to draw /sketch them and just am blocked on how or where to start.  Aaaahhhhhh.   I am tired and a bit  irritated so probably not the best time to start anyhow.   I have come to the conclusion that it is best and it will come.

northgate market adventure- day 162 (project 365)

Went to Northgate Market and always love going because it is such an adventure for me , unlike the regular grocery store.   Pinatas, produce, meats (grab a number and wait for the woman who calls your number - who I swear must have been a stage performer at one time), spiritual needs, and oh my.... pan de dulce (my favorite besos de coco).   Love it.    Oh yeah, and if you are into pork ----- every type and part of pork you can find.  Mmmm mmm - bleh.    Need to make a trip to the Asian market soon.
